This 1957 Chris Craft Sportsman was used yearly up until 2006 when it went into winter storage and was not moved until 2016 when the seller decided to rebuild the engine. We tested the rebuild but the boat was never used after, so the bottom was not properly soaked and floating for 15 years. It is so hard to say after 15 years what the bottom will do; it may soak up like it use to and just need some boat life to get it by to use for a few days, but we would not be able to fully determine that without putting it in the water for inspection. For rot, we have not found any rot in the wood that is exposed but once you open it up to replace the bottom it is possible rot could be found like any wooden boat. The boat has been in Tahoe for 25 plus years and always stored with us, so the chances are higher for it to be rot free. When the engine was out for the rebuild the bottom was not replaced at that time because a replacement bottom can start at k and go up from there and the 17ft Sportsman’s only have so much value. If the bottom soaks up well enough then yes, caulking can be added in areas of need to get the bottom by for a season but this is a band aid and has been done to this boat for so many years that eventually that process will just not work. It also becomes a major safety issue when you are using a wooden boat with a bottom that could possibly fail.
Upon the purchase agreement, documents will be sent to you, then sent back to us for owners approval.
This boat is sold as is there is no sea trial. The boat is currently in winter storage and will be available weather permitting. Located in north Lake Tahoe CA, 96140.
