This child's set of a bowl, mug and silver plated flatware and fine bone china features two of Cicely Mary Barker's spring flower fairies in blue and pink amid a natural setting. The two fairies depicted are the Speedwell Fairy in blue, and the Almond Blossom Fairy in pink. This charming design also features yellow primroses, bluebells, pinks, and English daisies growing nearby with spring green trim on the rims of the cup and bowl. The small mug divides the two fairies so that one is depicted on each side. Cicely Mary Barker was an English illustrator best known for a series of fantasy illustrations depicting fairies and flowers.
'Flower Fairies.com – The Estate of Cicely Barker 2021' states: “Since their first publication in 1923, Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairies have enchanted both adults and children alike around the world. The botanically accurate drawings in the 170 original illustrations, coupled with the enchanting fairy images based on real children from her sister’s nursery school, appeal to our innate sense of magic and wonder.
This set is vintage from 1986 and the back stamp indicates that it was issued in collaboration with the estate of Cicely M. Barker. Grenadier China created it in hand decorated fine bone china.
The set is in New condition although the box shows aging and spotting. I did unwrap the silverware pieces and polish them before photographing.
