Kenwood TS-520SE HF Transceiver - Nice Condition -

Description

This is a nice clean Kenwood TS-520SE HF Transceiver. This is the final iteration of the 520 Series. The main differences between the "SE" and the more common "S" version are: 1- eliminated the DC power source option, 2- connections for an external transverter have been deleted, 3- new marker circuit design, 4- addition of a CW narrow / wide switch function. The radio covers the traditional HF bands, (160, 80/75, 40, 20, 15, and 10 Meters). This radio does NOT cover 11 meters. It was built in the early 1980's. It is a hybrid rig, meaning it is all solid state with the exception of the transmit driver, (12BY7), and final tubes, (2 X 6146B) - this one has the original OEM Japanese Toshiba brand driver and finals. It also has the optional CW filter installed. It puts out between 85 - 100 watts on 160 - 15 meters, (photos show 80, 40, and 20 meters, but only about 50 watts on 10 - readings were taken in "CW" position). Receive works fine on all bands as well. All functions and controls appear to work as they should. Cosmetically, I'd rate it an 7.5 out of 10. The cabinet has the usual scrapes, scuffs, and scratches. The front panel and controls are in very good condition. This radio is listed as "For Parts or Repair" due to the lower than normal output power on 10 meters - likely the driver, and / or final tubes are getting soft - they appear to be original to the radio. I've used this rig on 80, 40, and 20 meter side band with no issues and excellent signal reports. This auction includes the radio, a generic hand mic, and a printed copy of the operating manual - The Dummy load / wattmeter IS NOT INCLUDED.  Since this is a 35+ year old radio, it is being sold "AS IS".
