Been working on radios 28 yrs. This is one super radio. It has everything & does everything and performance is great! It will take you some time & a learning curve to realize all the tons of functions. All is explained in the book. This radio is much the same as a Stryker 955 & is made in the same factory by the same people. But it's far more compact in size. Din size!
I converted it for continuous tuning of any frequency from approx 24.710 up to 30.100 mhz which is more than full 10/11 & 12 meter coverage tx/rx. I also carefully performance tuned it for loud & clear 50w pep. I set low pwr AM for 2w dead key which swings as hi as 40+w depending on your mic gain setting. The stock mic is a hi quality electret condenser powered mic & very sensitive. Lots of room to turn it down to lower the pep swing. I set hi power AM dk at 12w. It swings to 50w. Lo pwr ssb does 10w & hi pwr ssb is very close to 50w. I used a bird calibrated, Autek WM-1. I left FM & CW as is from factory.
It's difficult to know where to start & stop w/all the plethora of features & functions. Many of them are listed in the copy below but not all.
Warranty is 2 yrs but if you read it, I believe you have 30 days to buy a special president antenna which will add 3 more yrs to the warranty for a total of 5 yrs! Most likely you can just use your eBay receipt but if necessary, I can send a receipt as well. There shouldn't be any issue w/the radio being converted because president made the radio to be converted. It's not some hack. It involves adding a part to the board which is marked for it on the board and then some minor programming on the front to add in 11 meters and and the continuous vfo tuning. That can easily be undone as well. Aside from that and some light performance tuning, there are no hacks or mods or changes to anything. A totally intact new radio!
I also did some setup adjustments to improve the operation. These adjustments are front panel programming of the factory features such as setting up the echo for great sound and opening the clarifier. Again, these are not mods, they are adjustments included in the programming. Some are tricky to learn so I gave it a good head start. I set the echo for that big radio sound. There is also a dedicated on/off switch on the front.
There is a stepping function for the tuning resolution, so any frequency can be dialed in using that function, however it also allows you you have a completely locked clarifier or to unlock the rx only, the tx only or open both for a fully unlocked clarifier which will track tx & rcv. I fulky unlocked it for best ssb operation. It can be changed at any time via programming.
There is also a mini USB port on the back & readily available free software to customize the programming via a pc but it's not necessary as the book explains all the front panel programming using the various buttons & menus. The channel tuner is also an "encoder" and can be pushed in to click certain functions such as changing the frequency stepping. The screen shows both channel & frequency readout and has a cursor on the frequency to change the tuning resolution.
There is an swr meter function.
There is an adjustable talkback function. It's called "monitor".
It has a scanning function and a dual watch function.
Also has "ASC" which is the well know president automatic squelch control beside the regular manual squelch.
This radio has built in vox, voice activation! And it works with the included stock mic believe it or not! There is also available, an optional clip on dedicated vox mic that plugs into the back. But again, the vox voice activated function works with the stock mic and is fully adjustable! I believe there are 3 adjustments. There's a vox sensitivity setting & an "anti-vox" setting to help control ambient background noise and there's also a delay time adjustment for the length of time for the radio to let go of the key after you stop speaking. Totally professional & total control USING THE STOCK MIC! That's pretty amazing and there are videos available from president that show just how real world fantastic this feature works.
It has an adjustable roger beep which is time & tone adjustable to customize for you, should you want it.
In the menu, there are some fantastic features. One is "TSR", which I made sure is turned on by default. It shuts the transmitter down in case of hi swr & antenna system problems, so you cannot hurt the radio or the finals. It is self protective! That's worth it weight in gold, right there. The swr parameters are selectively adjustable via the programming. The factory default setting should do just fine. It also has an over voltage protection circuit which works the same way and also adjustable. This radio protects itself and your investment, diligently w/o you having to do anything. Awesome.
The screen is backlit and has 3 different colors to choose from, amber, green & blue.
There are several noise filters, ie, anl, nb, hi-cut.
It has all the built in ctcss tones and the dsc tones for using w/repeaters.
A digital tx/rx/swr meter.
It has a cw jack on the back.
I'm sure there are many other features it covers but that's all I can think of at the moment, after doing my best to familiarizing myself last nite with it. It the latest & greatest v. 4 if the Lincoln line. I've also included the copy of the functions/self listings, below.
