Description

This is a
vintage stainless steel mechanical ice tongs
from the 1930s. Please see my eBay store and my other listings for more silver items. This beautiful serving piece has graceful arms that spread wide when the top button is depressed. It is marked "Pat No 1967731" and another number that I can't make out. US patent number 1967731 was granted in 1934 to Alfred H. Ackerson of Glen Ellyn, Illinois for the grabbing mechanism. This interesting piece comes to you in its original felt wrapper from Schwanke-Kasten Jewelers (formerly Alsted-Kasten) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. You can scroll down to see more photos.
This good looking tongs measures 7 3/4" long, and weighs a substantial 1.9 oz (54 gr) on my little scale. It is in very good condition, with light signs of use and a little tarnish. There are no dings, dents or bends. The dark areas you see are reflections from my camera. The wrapper is also in very good condition. For silver jewelry, antique sterling and interesting antique and vintage items, please see my other auctions.
